The Art of Deadheading

Deadheading is a very simple but important way to keep your flowers reblooming. As plants fade out of bloom, pinch or cut off the flower stem below the spent flower and just above the first set of full, healthy leaves. Repeat with all the dead flowers on the plant. Sometimes it may be easier to deadhead plants by shearing them back entirely. Shear away the top few inches of the plant, enough to remove the spent blossoms. It seems like a teadious task, but if you spend at least a short time in the garden each day, your deadheading task will be much easier and your gardens will remain in bloom all season.
